Sec Championship Game Returns To Atlanta

The Southeastern Conference division winners will return to Atlanta this year for the 2011 SEC Football Championship game. The Georgia Dome will be packed with more than 75,000 fans who will witness the match up of the SEC Eastern and SEC Western division champs. The winner will represent the SEC in a Bowl Championship Series game.

The SEC Championship game is scheduled for December 3 at 4pm. CBS Sports will televise the game. The University of Georgia will represent the SEC East. The SEC West opponent is yet to be determined. Everything will come down to the last weekend of the regular season with LSU, Arkansas, and Alabama all trying to earn the Western division spot. The SEC Championship team will receive an automatic invitation to a BCS Bowl game. This 20th SEC Championship game promises to be an exciting one for the fans.

The Georgia Bulldogs are 9-2 for the season, coming into their final regular season game against in state rival Georgia Tech. Possible opponents LSU, ranked #1 nationally, and Arkansas, currently ranked #3, play each other on November 25. On November 26 #2 Alabama will play at Auburn.

The Southeastern Conference currently has 12 member schools. Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt make up the SEC Eastern division. The SEC West is comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, and Ole Miss. The SEC recently announced the addition of two new members. Texas A&M and Missouri will join the conference in 2012.

There are plenty of pre-game activities for football fans to enjoy. The SEC Dr. Pepper Fan Fare draws approximately 40,000 fans each year. Festivities include interactive games, pep rallies, and contests. Fans can practice their field goal kicking skills or play flag football. Team logo merchandise will available for sale. Fan Fare will take place downtown in the Georgia World Congress Center, adjacent to the Georgia Dome. Hours are Friday, December 2 from 1-6pm and Saturday, December 3 from 9am-4pm. Tickets for Fan Fare are available at the Georgia World Congress Center, and admission prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Kids are admitted free on Friday. Other SEC events include a Coachs Luncheon on December 2 at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency. The coaches will give their analysis and thoughts of the season and the upcoming game. Tickets for the luncheon are $35.

Although game day parking is available in lots around the Georgia Dome, fans are encouraged to take MARTA transportation downtown to avoid traffic congestion. SEC fans are looking forward to an exciting championship game.
